Adjusted
The checkerboard shows through transparent areas. PNG export multiplies the original pixel alpha by 50%.
This fades the whole image, including any existing transparent edges. To erase a background while keeping the subject opaque, use Remove Background.
What this tool does
Reduce the opacity of an entire image. Both solid pixels and already translucent edges fade together, so the result works well as a subtle layer or watermark.
How to use it
- Choose a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF image.
- Move the opacity slider and compare the original with the adjusted preview over the checkerboard.
- Download a PNG with the new alpha values.
Understand the controls
- Opacity
- 100% preserves the original alpha; 0% makes every pixel fully transparent. Intermediate values multiply each pixel’s existing alpha.
- Checkerboard
- The pattern is only a preview aid. It is not painted into the downloaded PNG.
Example
For a faint logo over a photograph, try 30–50% opacity, then use Layer Composer to position the exported PNG over the photo.
Files and limits
One file up to 15 MB, 8192 px per edge and 32 million pixels. Animated GIFs use the first frame. The output is always PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Will existing transparent edges be preserved?
Yes. The selected opacity multiplies the image’s existing alpha, so soft edges remain soft.
Does this remove a background?
No. It fades the entire image. Use Remove Background to erase a plain background.
Which frame of an animated GIF is used?
The first decoded frame is exported as a static PNG.
